Chitwan is situated in the southern part of Nepal and is famous for the National Park which is home to myriad animals and birds (some of them endangered). It is situated in the lowlands popularly called the Terai. The word Chitwan itself means “heart of the jungle” and is considered one of the finest wildlife reserves in Asia. It is the habitat for the famous Bengal Tiger and the endangered one-horned Rhino. Chitwan offers you a wonderful opportunity to observe these amazing animals while you ride on elephant backs. You can also enjoy the local Tharu village and explore their culture.

The Chitwan National park was established in 1973 and covers an area of 932 sq. km. There are more than 43 species of mammals, over 450 species of birds, and more than 45 species of amphibians and reptiles in this reserve. You can find the Chital, Sambar, Hog Deer, Barking deer, wild elephant, four horned antelope, striped hyena, pangolin, Gangetic dolphin, monitor lizard, python, sloth deer, common leopard, ratel, palm civet, wild dog, Langur and rhesus monkeys. You can also find endangered animals like the one-horned rhinoceros, Tiger and the Gharial.

15.00: Elephant Safari – An excellent opportunity to see four different kinds of deer, rhinoceros, boar, monkey, leopard, sloth bear and the royal Bengal tiger (If you are lucky). You will also encounter many other smaller mammals that have made Royal Chitwan National Park their home.

19.00: Tharu cultural dance presentation (Which you will also participate in) by the local villagers or slide show presentation on almost everything under the Chitwan.

07.00: Canoe ride along the Rapti River. An excellent opportunity for Bird Watching, for seeing the 2 rare species of crocodiles(the marsh mugger and fish-eating gharial)and jungle walk on the way back where one can enjoy the elephant bathing.
